Clee Leads From The Turn To Land Legs Open Crown At Lanark

David Clee has won the 2015 Legs Open at Lanark, closing out a two-shot victory over Robert Hamilton on a day when nobody in the field managed to break par.

Playing in the last group out alongside Gary Simpson and Jamie Bain, Clee set the tone early — a two-shot lead established by the 5th hole proved to be the largest advantage anyone held all week, and by the turn he was out in front outright. From there he played steady, unspectacular golf to sign for a nett 74, four over Lanark's par, and hold on for the win.

Robert Hamilton, out in the first group alongside 2013 champion Alastair Campbell and Davie Clelland, pushed hardest of the chasing pack, carding a 76 to take the Main runner-up spot. It was a big day for Hamilton regardless of the placing — he also claimed both the Stableford and Scratch titles, a rare double that added another layer to a tightly-fought week.

Conditions at Lanark bit throughout the round, and several players found the course unforgiving enough to pick up rather than finish out difficult holes — a reminder that simply completing a card at Lanark was no small feat this year.

Clee's win adds his name to a Legs Open roll of honour that already includes Alastair Campbell (2013, via playoff) and John Pow (2014).
